How often do we celebrate several holidays and events each year but do not understand what the season is about? This year as we celebrate Easter, let us seek to understand its true meaning. For many, it revolves around egg hunts, chocolate bunnies and family. Easter is about the price Jesus paid for every human by dying on the cross to pay the penalty for our sin so we could be made right with God. The popular Bruno Mars “Catch a grenade” song claims he would die for his beloved. Was he serious or was he just singing? We know that Jesus was serious because he laid down his life for his beloved (all of us).
Our sin separates us from God and God acted by providing a solution to the sin-issue in our lives. Imagine yourself standing before a Judge convicted of a crime and someone comes to your rescue, takes your place, and serves the sentence you were supposed to serve. That is what Jesus did on the cross, he took the punishment so that we would not have to, he took our place. Its only natural to ask why? Why would he pay such a high price? The Bible says in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life”. God loved us so much that no price was too high to pay.
Jesus is the only one that offers hope even when the world feels hopeless. That is why the invitation is extended to everyone. 2 Corinthians 5:17: “Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun”. So, as we celebrate Easter this year, let us consider the price that was paid for our redemption and embrace the gift of Jesus by receiving Him into our lives.
To place your trust in God; accept Jesus Christ alone as your Savior. Pray this simple prayer:
Dear Jesus, thank you for making it possible for me to find peace with God. I know that I am a sinner and that I cannot save myself. By faith I gratefully receive your gift of salvation. I am ready to trust you as my Lord and Savior. I believe you are the Son of God who died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead on the third day. I receive your peace and unending love. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, and be my Savior. Amen.
