The gift of Christmas and the hope of a New Year

The story of Christmas is one of hope, the hope of salvation which Jesus Christ brings to the whole world. “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” (Act 4:12). 2021 has been very challenging for most of us with not much to hope for, however when we ponder on the true meaning of Christmas, we can be hopeful.
Christmas is remembering the birth of Jesus Christ into the world and the hope his coming brought. Jesus came that we may have life and have it more abundantly. (John 10:10). Christmas celebrates the love God has for us by sending His son to the world to die for our sins. “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13).
So, as we celebrate Christmas and look forward to the opportunity of a new year, let us embrace the hope we find in the salvation that Jesus offers us. We can be confident in placing our trust in a God that knows tomorrow and is able to take care of us in 2022. God sees what we cannot see and can prepare us in advance for what is in the future. So many people today place their trust in the government, their wealth, and other people, but the Psalmist said it best: “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.” (Psalm 20:7)
To place your trust in God; accept Jesus Christ alone as your savior. Pray this simple prayer:
Dear Jesus, thank you for making it possible for me to find peace with God. I know that I am a sinner and that I cannot save myself. By faith I gratefully receive your gift of salvation. I am ready to trust you as my Lord and Savior. I believe you are the Son of God who died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead on the third day. I receive your peace and unending love. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, and be my Savior. Amen.
